When it comes to putting OneDrive into Citrix or other virtualized environments – and particularly shared multi-user environments like Citrix Virtual Apps or Windows Virtual Desktop – there are a number of factors you will want to bear in mind. As with Teams, Microsoft can be quite savvy by pushing this hard into the personal user space and then allowing the users themselves to pressure enterprises into adoption, because they’ve already become familiar with the product. So there’s little point arguing what works best on Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops – chances are you’ve already been told to look at OneDrive. The likes of Sharefile, Box, DropBox and all the others out there may well have more features and work better – but if your product is effectively free, then there is a tipping point of “good enough” and Microsoft have already passed this threshold.

For those of you living under rocks, OneDrive is Microsoft’s horse in the Enterprise File Share and Sync (EFSS) race – and because it is free with your Office365 entitlement, it is pretty much one of the frontrunners. As more and more of us adapt to new ways of working, OneDrive is bound to come to your attention sooner or later. It was only a matter of time before I got to this subject.
